Due to the impact of the world wide pandemic C-19, resulting government and LTA advice, our clubhouse and tennis courts were closed back in March 2020 until further notice. Therefore, the AGM meeting was cancelled (planned 18th March 2020). Instead committee members have provided their AGM reports in this document, for the 2019/2020 season. CHAIR'S REPORT AGM 2020 Introduction This has been a very busy year for your committee and I am extremely grateful for all the support the club has received – both from our dedicated committee members and from the many volunteers. In the last year the club has progressed rapidly and despite the current world wide pandemic C-19, things may never be ‘normal‘ again but life will go on and we shall be back on court hopefully soon. Teams Our two teams continue to perform well and It was good to see that our A – Team was promoted to Division 3 last year. This was thanks to our team captain - Steve Kingston, who has sadly decided to step down from this role. A huge thank you goes out to him for the dedication he gave to the Club in his numerous years as Team Captain and for the kind assistance and encouragement he gave to all team players. Membership I am pleased to see an increase in new adult and junior members joining, both for badminton and tennis. The Committee is aware that more needs to be done in increasing our membership numbers and initiatives will be developed for this in the coming new season. It is good to see we now have a dedicated committee member to report on all badminton matters. Coaching Junior Tennis I have had the Coaching Report from Mark and pleased to see two of our juniors (Archie & Aidan) train as LTA level 1 coaches. Both have now successfully qualified and have been assisting with the Saturday morning junior tennis. It is envisaged that a new Junior Coaching Programme in the near future (led by Mark/Peter) will attract good numbers of juniors from the local area and this shall be healthy for the long term prospects of the Club moving forward. Maintenance Works We continue to ensure that maintenance remain high on the agenda of the club committee, both on and off the court. John Leyreloup has performed diligently in the club’s maintenance matters and deserves a special thank you along with other club members and volunteers when called upon. Already you will note that the badminton courts have been painted and other building works are in progress. Our Club secretary Mark too deserves a huge thank you for organising the painting and other maintenance work of the club. Unfortunately, the recent storms have resulted in our boundary fence collapsing, which will incur unplanned costs. | Social Events This year we have seen some enjoyable social events than ever before. One of the highlights was The Davis Cup Event, which was a huge success for the club. I believe every participant and observer enjoyed the event. I am pleased to report that our search for a social organiser appears to be at an end. This is an important role and one that has remained vacant for too long. I wish our new incoming Social Secretary, Kieron, the best of luck ahead and hope that this particular role is one that he will enjoy and find good support from our fellow members. The club has been very active in notifying members via email of club activities, tennis and non-tennis related when appropriate. We will look to continue this for the coming year and keep members up-to-speed. So please, please, do check your emails and website on a regular basis. In keeping up with social media and today’s technology, the club’s dedicated Facebook page has also proven a useful tool in making notifications to members where necessary, as well as continuing to foster a sense of community for the club’s members. The Facebook group page continues to be a useful outlet in bringing members together online. Website Development Thanks to our club secretary (for many things) for continuing to develop and enhance the club website. It is good to see there is now an online membership form for direct payment. In addition to this there is a link to our Facebook page. Finance and membership We are not a wealthy tennis club by any stretch of the imagination, our finances have been carefully managed and remain in a reasonably healthy state under the stewardship of our new Treasurer Andrew, who has recently taken on this role and our thanks go out to him. The committee is considering the possibility of changing the club’s status from CASC status to that of a Charity, in order to gain a greater potential monetary sum from Gift Aid. If any club member has knowledge of this matter can they please contact the club secretary. Action Plan The committee will need to prepare an action plan to guide us through the year ahead. This will be difficult at present to the current pandemic situation. Committee and Trustees I believe we now have an active engaging committee to steer the club forward in the right direction. As the Club continues to grow and develop, I do feel we need new and enthusiastic volunteers to come forward and join in the running of the Club. If you think you could put a few hours aside to be involved, please do let me or the club secretary know and we’ll find a suitable role for you. Conclusion This club flourishes on the basis of voluntary work. I would like to thank all committee members and volunteers that have served us to date and agreed to stand for the coming year, they are paramount to the continued success of the club. We hope to continue to progress our future vision for the club - make improvements for the benefits of its members and continue the friendly and welcoming atmosphere that makes our club appealing. Finally, I would like to thank all members who have supported me during the past year and made my job a pleasure and a privilege. Hopefully, I look forward to an even better year ahead, once this pandemic passes. See you on court soon. Kamran Khan (Chair) 8/4/20 |
